How To Take Care Of Silicone Collectibles
QUICK GUIDE TO SILICONE
Dear fellow collectors. We’d like to thank you all for your amazing support of the last year or so. As we are one of the first companies making collectible busts out of silicone, we have had a lot of questions on how to care for this material. Although all of our busts come with a guide on how to care for silicone collectibles, we thought it would be useful to put together this quick guide.
WHAT IS SILICONE?
Silicone belongs to the rubber family, but chemically, it is a hybrid between synthetic rubber and a synthetic plastic polymer. Due to silicone’s chemical composition, it can be moulded and formed into almost any shape. Silicone is soft to touch, and resistant to high and low temperatures making it ideal for food moulds and baby pacifiers.
CARING FOR SILICONE
Caring for the silicone is pretty easy. You can use a brush to remove any excess dust or dirt.
If you don’t have a brush to hand, a damp cloth like what you'd clean your sunglasses with would do the trick.
KEEPING THE SILICONE DRY
The hair can be styled easily, and the surface of the hair and silicone skin can be dried. However, you need to be careful with the heat. We recommend that you use a low heat setting.
CHANGES IN TEMPERATURE
You need to pay attention to extreme weather. If the temperature is too low, the silicone can become chapped. If the temperature is too high, the silicone can become oily.
(Some oil is normal, if this is the case, you can use a makeup sponge to gently dab the oil.)
IMPORTANT CARE INFORMATION
Please try to keep sharp objects away from the silicone. If the silicone splits, it isn’t easy to repair. Also, be careful with ink or paint, it is difficult to remove oil or paint once it is on the silicone.
